Dr. Jo Shen will share how a VC evaluate a startup for investment, and teach how an entrepreneur can objectively analyze the competitiveness of the founding team and the business plan!  This is based on her over 40 years industrial experience including the cofounding of ScinoPharm, investment experience in VC, and the startup advisor; a golden opportunity for entrepreneurs to learn what an investor looks for!

Introduction of the Speaker Dr. Jo Shen

Dr. Jo Shen is an international business executive with 48 years of experience in the chemical & pharmaceutical industries.  She co-founded ScinoPharm in US and serves as the President and CEO, until her retirement in 2014 with ScinoPharm going public in 2011 in Taiwan.  She became a Venture Partner of Vivo Capital in 2016 in investment of new drug development companies.  She was the Corporate VP of Operations in Syntex Pharmaceuticals before ScinoPharm. 

She cofounded the “Biotech Industry Academy” in 2015 after her retirement, offering professional training programs custom designed for the biotech industry in Taiwan.

She holds a PhD in Chemistry from Lehigh University, and received the “Women in Industry” award from YWCA in California.   

AAEOY Speaker Series

AAEOY (Asian American Engineer of the Year) is an annual recognition event hosted by CIE/USA on the national platform to honor the most distinguished Asian American professionals with their leadership, technical achievements and remarkable public services.

AAEOY was first introduced in 2002, with a total 304 awardees to date.  The awardees have served as role models and sources of inspiration for the STEM community.  Past awardees included Nobel Laureates, academic scholars, key corporate executives, and an astronaut!

During the Covid 19, AAEOY committee decided to invite past awardees and other distinguished industrial/business leaders to share their technical knowledge and experience and interact with the audience in the AAEOY Speaker Series.
