Talk Title: e-Health to m-Health by Dr. Wen-Pai Lu
Talk Abstract: With the advances in medical and health information technologies, healthcare is going through a significant transformation. These technologies are helping doctors provide better care for their patients as well as help patients to take care of their health. The advent of mobile technology, for example the wearable devices, provide a continuation of care and health monitoring.
In this talk, Dr. Lu will explore the challenges in the healthcare industry. How does each sector in the healthcare industry leverage the technology and transform themselves? How does m-health change the way clinicians and consumers manage their health. Finally he will cover the new trends in e-health and m-health. Speaker Bio: Wen-Pai Lu earned his Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Arizona.
Wen-Pai Lu is the head of Product Management of a startup focusing on software defined data center, network functions virtualization, and cloud. Before this, he was a Solution Architect in Cisco Global Healthcare Solution Unit. He is responsible for Smart Hospital, Healthcare Cloud, and Telehealth. He develops solutions to address healthcare challenges and provide architecture design for healthcare organization around the world. He has deployed many healthcare solutions in US, China, Middle East, and Europe.
He has published over 20 technical papers in the technical journals as well as in technical conferences. He is a frequent speaker at many conferences around the world. Wen-Pai is very active in the healthcare IT. He has initiated the Mobile Health Special Interest Group (SIG) in the last 2+ years. Talk Title: The World of Sensors by Dr. William Kao
Talk Abstract: In this talk Dr. Kao will present an overview of sensors: what they are, how they work, types of sensors, current trends and forces impacting the sensor industry. That will be followed by their many applications in self driving cars, robots, building and home automation, transportation, healthcare, environment, Internet of Things, in retail and military, and finally discuss the challenges and future of sensors. A special section will focus on sensors for healthcare applications to supplement the first talk by Dr. Lu on e-health an dm-health.
Speaker Bio: Dr. William Kao received his BSEE, MSEE and PhD from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. He worked in the Semiconductor and Electronic Design Automation industries for more than 30 years holding several senior and executive engineering management positions at Texas Instruments, Xerox Corporation, Cadence Design Systems.
Dr. Kao has authored more than 40 technical papers at IEEE Journals and Conferences, and holds eight software and IC design patents. He was an Adjunct Professor at UCLA Electrical Engineering Department where he taught courses in computer aided IC design.
Dr. Kao is a Senior Member of IEEE, and was one of the founding members of IEEE-Circuits and Systems - Silicon Valley Chapter, where he was Chapter Chair in 2005 and 2006.
Dr. Kao currently teaches Renewable Energy, Clean Technology and Business Sustainability courses at the University of California Santa Cruz, Silicon Valley Extension.
Dr. Kao current interests include the subjects of Energy, Environment and Education.
He teaches and is a frequent lecturer on various Emerging Technologies including Clean Technology, Renewable Energy, Business Sustainability, Big Data, IoT, Smart Cities, Innovation, Augmented reality, Robotics and 3D Printing.
