Medical device is a multi-disciplinary industry; it often requires a team of experts in medicine, biology, chemistry, physics, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, and software engineering. The challenge to successfully developing a medical device is to recruit experts in a multi-disciplinary team who can clearly communicate with each other. Several advanced technologies enable the development of personalized or precision medicine, such as lab-on-chip, 3D printing, high resolution imaging, and artificial intelligence. Medical device industry is highly regulated by FDA such that the product development process much more controlled when compared to either consumer or industrial products. We will discuss advanced medical devices technologies and explore career opportunities for engineers.
Speaker: Yuping Chung
Yuping Chung (鍾俞平) is a high-tech business and management executive for 30+ years in medical devices, semiconductor, solid state storages, and enterprise software. Yuping is now a co-founder and SVP of Business Operations at Anitoa Systems, a molecular diagnostics medical device startup in Palo Alto, California. Yuping is responsible for venture funding, new business development, strategic partnership, and sales management. In addition, Yuping also serves as executive advisor to several startups in medical devices, smart home solutions, robotics, and flash IC devices.
Prior to Anitoa, Yuping was General Manager of Faraday Technology USA, a SoC/ASIC design service company publicly traded in Taiwan. At Faraday, he manages new market expansion into medical devices, smart home, advanced driver assisted systems (ADAS), and solid state storage devices (SSD). Yuping has launched several pioneering products including high speed SerDes IPs, single chip SSDs, and high speed memories when working for Arasan Chip Systems, SST, sTEC, Marconix, Etron Technology, Mitsubishi USA (now Renesas), and IDT.
In addition to his professional career, Yuping is a member of the Board of Advisor of CASPA, a Silicon Valley non-profit semiconductor professional organization established in 1991 with 11 chapters in US, Taiwan, China, Hong Kong, and Singapore. Yuping has been instrumental to increase the brand recognition of CASPA to the mainstream industry communities.
